WELCOME TO MOUNTAIN SCHOLARS

You don't have to homeschool alone!

Homeschooling is a big commitment, with potentially great rewards.  And while most of us who embark on this journey find that challenge very worthwhile, sometimes we can benefit from a little help.

Assuming 100% of the responsibility for your child’s education, and meeting all those needs for all the years of schooling is a formidable task.

Mountain Scholars seeks to support homeschooling families in two unique ways, depending on students’ age and grade levels.

For 1st-5th Graders:

We offer support for the academic nuts and bolts—teaching students to read, write and do math.  Teaching these subjects well requires a high level of consistency that sometimes parents can struggle to provide in the midst of daily life in the home.  Additionally, sometimes teaching these skills, particularly when a student is struggling, can really try the parent-child relationship.

Our Academic Tutorial seeks to relieve some of the stress over teaching these essential skills and provide students and parents a part-time structured, consistent learning environment where students thrive.

The Academic Tutorial also offers parents a bit of a “margin” in their week, where they might be able to catch up on household tasks, focus on their babies, toddlers, or teens, or work at a job.

For 6th-12th Graders:

Assuming students have had a solid foundation in reading, writing, and math, by the time they are entering the sixth grade, they should be moving towards more academic independence.  No longer must a parent sit right at the child's elbow, guiding every step.

Many of our Mountain Scholars Middle and High School students are taking courses via rigorous online academies. Some are taking courses at the local charter school or Junior College,  or are in other ways, pursuing their own academic programs as fairly independent learners.

What homeschool students tend to lack at this stage is meaningful social opportunities with peers and the in-real-life learning experiences of electives.

Mountain Scholars Enrichment provides the opportunity for homeschooling Middle and High School students to enjoy meaningful activities with their peers on a regular basis.
